All Dog Breeds >>Health of Glen of Imaal Terrier

Generally very strong and healthy, the breed is prone to progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), a disease of the eyes. A genetic test is available for PRA and breeders are now using this test to evaluate potential breedings. Heart problems are rare, with only one recorded case, although some veterinarians incorrectly diagnose an enlarged heart not being familiar with the breed. The breed does best on a low protein diet after the age of twelve months to avoid digestive issues. Glens may live for 16 years or more.
